The name kandy is a version of the’ kanda uda Rata’ (the country over the mountain ) in Sinhala it is called Maha Nuwara which means the Great city it was also known as senkadagala. Sri wickrema Rajasinha the last king of sri lanka was taken captive by the British forces in 1815.
The geographical location of kandy was a natural fortress for defense. It had been built in a valley surrounded by three mountain ranges; udawatta kele, Hantane range, and Bahirawakanda range.
The sri Dalada maligawa, which enshrines the sacred Tooth. Relic of the Budda, is the holiest shrine in the Buddhist world and to the Buddhist people of sri lanka.
A world heritage city, kandy is the capital of the central province. Sri lanka’s most visited tourist destinations, kandy is the middle of mountains and its Beauty is enhanced by the artificial lake and the river mshaweli and the Peradeniya Botanical Gardens.
PINNAWALA ELEPHANT ORPHANAGE
This is the first elephant orphanage set up in 1974. Since the pinnawela has become a tourist destination. Largecrowds of toursts gather near the maha oya when elephants are brought houses and restaurants, shops and spice gardens around pinnawala.

NUWARA ELIYA
It’ s a land of peace, and silence. The nostalgia of the empire builders is reflected in Nuwara Eliya. The town is decorated with buildings ranging in style from Georgain to queen Anne. Parks, trout streams, an 18 hole golf course complete with gorse, the post office with the clockspire , the Anglican church with a lych- gate, and the hill club, with its hunting prints , stuffed fish and polished oak.
Early morning, Proceed to Nuwara Eliya through Ramboa pass-Beautiful scenery,6187 ft. above sea level -tea carpeted hills, Ramboda waterfall(329 ft). Hakgala Botanical Garden.Back to Colombo through Ginigathhena. May stop for lunch at Kitulgala ,Location of the famous film bridge o the river kwai.
