Itinerary

Air Port –>Anawilundawa Wetland –> NawadankulamaWelcome to Sri Lanka! We are excited to have you on this 10-day birdwatching adventure. Upon your arrival at Bandaranaike International Airport, our friendly GSL representative will be there to greet you and assist with all necessary arrangements. From there, we’ll transfer you to Anawilundawa Wetland, a key birdwatching destination.

Transfer to Anawilundawa Wetland (1-hour drive approx.)

Bird watching in Anawilundawa. A man-made wetland constructed in the 12th century this sanctuary is located on the western migratory bird route. It is home to abundant bird life, including waterfowl, as well as mammals like mouse deer, wild boar, and civets. Reptiles and amphibians such as water monitors and geckos are also commonly sighted.Enjoy the tranquility of this scenic sanctuary, ideal for photographers and nature lovers.

Transfer to Nawadankulama (30 minutes’ Drive)

Bird watching at the Nawadankulama Tank. This barren landscape transforms when migrant ducks flock here during the migratory season. Birds like the Collared Dove, Indian Grey Partridge, and several species of eagle can be seen year-round.Overnight stay: Hotel Sinharagama, Nochchiyagama.

Transfer to Sigiriya (2-hour drive approx)

Once there, enjoy an early morning bird-watching session in the Sigiriya Sanctuary, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Led by an expert naturalist, you’ll have the chance to spot vibrant species like the Ceylon Junglefowl, Sri Lanka Hanging Parrot, and majestic raptors. Afterward, head to a cozy eco-lodge in Habarana for a well-deserved lunch and relaxation. In The Evening

Visit Sigiriya Sigiriya Rock Fortress, a UNESCO gem and a marvel of ancient engineering. Once a king’s palace, this towering giant boasts vivid frescoes, mystical Mirror Wall inscriptions, and colossal Lion’s Paws guarding the ascent. Climb 1,200 steps to the summit for breathtaking panoramas of emerald jungles and ancient ruins. Visit Makandawa Rainforest

Evening bird watching in the Makandawa Rainforest Patch, located within the Kalani Valley Forest Reserve. Nestled within the Kalani Valley Forest Reserve, the Makandawa Rainforest Patch is a paradise for birdwatchers.
